Tatiane needed her California license for work. Like a lot of my students, the pressure wasn't just personal — her employer was waiting.
Her first attempt, on a Friday, didn't go well — a mix of nerves and an examiner at the Culver City DMV who was quick to penalize a single maneuver. She booked a second test for the following Wednesday before she'd even left the parking lot.
She had some remaining sessions with another instructor — a guy named Carlos — and scheduled her second attempt with him. I wasn't available that week and told her so.
Then my car came out of the shop on Tuesday afternoon. I let Tatiane know I was free. That's when she told me what had just happened: Carlos had cancelled on her less than 12 hours before the test. His reason? He'd been scratched by his cat and needed to go to the hospital the next day.
I didn't hesitate. I told her I'd be there — even though she'd booked the test in Thousand Oaks, nearly 30 miles from where she worked. In LA traffic, that's close to an hour each way.
We went. She passed with only 5 errors.
Well done, Tatiane.
