Pedro hadn't driven much, and what experience he had was from a long time ago. He'd recently moved to LA and quickly realized what most people figure out within weeks of arriving: in this city, a car isn't optional.
We did a simulation before the test. He was ready — but standing outside the DMV that morning, he was clearly anxious. Deep breaths, restless energy. I understood it. Nerves before a driving test are completely normal, and they show up differently for everyone depending on the day, the traffic, the examiner, the conditions.
But I'd already watched him drive. I knew he had the ability. I told him so.
When he finished the test and opened the car door, his smile told me everything before he said a word. I asked how many errors he'd made.
Zero.
I almost didn't believe it. I was genuinely thrilled — that result belongs entirely to him. Congratulations, Pedro.
