Gustavo came in with no real driving experience, but he committed fully — three sessions of two hours each, running a long route from his workplace in Beverly Hills all the way to his home in Long Beach.
For the test, he chose the Culver City DMV for its relatively high pass rate. On his first attempt, the examiner failed him for driving too close to parked cars in residential areas where there are no painted lane lines.
It's a common pattern with new drivers. In the early stages, people tend to center their body rather than the vehicle within the lane. Sitting on the left side of the car, this habit drifts the car to the right — toward parked vehicles.
Gustavo took it as a lesson and didn't let it discourage him. He booked another test, came back, and passed with only 4 errors.
Congratulations on earning one of the most important documents you'll carry as an immigrant here in California.
